Years ago, we set out with a sense of responsibility to search for neglected varieties, in order to preserve our agricultural and cultural roots, with the belief that biodiversity is essential to the world’s development and to our future.
For Archeologia Arborea, Goal 2 means this: the more sustainable and diversified agriculture is, the more stable the system becomes and the better it can respond to catastrophic events, including those caused by climate change (extreme heat, excessive humidity). Conserving biodiversity gives local communities greater stability in production and therefore a better chance of survival.
For Archeologia Arborea, Goal 11 means restoring and preserving, even in urban environments, spaces for nature and agriculture that can bring ecological breathing room to the urban fabric, re-establishing the relationship between people, nature and agriculture, even in small interconnected spaces, so that the environmental and human sustainability of living can increase.
For Archeologia Arborea, conserving agrobiodiversity means producing and consuming with greater respect for seasonality, and therefore reducing waste. Above all, it means restoring the relationship between producer and consumer, so as to give food products their proper value – a value shaped by culture, history and tradition.
For us at Archeologia Arborea, safeguarding biodiversity is of fundamental importance as a response to the need for food security, climate change and natural evolution.
