Sanguinella Peach

The mother plants were recovered in Città di Castello (Perugia) but this variety was widespread in all of central Italy. It used to be propagated mostly by seeds and thus it would diversify in color intensity and ripening time. It owes its name to the color of the flesh. It used to belong to the group of the Damaschine pears. The tree It is moderately vigorous, with irregular habit and generally productive. It is very rugged and it is amongst the least demanding peach varieties regarding soil specifications. The fruit is small to medium, round and slightly pointy. The skin is quite thick and a grey-purple covered with intense down. The flesh has a white background with a widespread red getting more intense towards the pit. It is juicy and very aromatic, melting at ripening time and not easily coming off the pit. The beak is medium and at times absent. It is harvested at the end of September or during the first ten days of October. It is for immediate consumption or for drying and other ways of preserving.
