San Pietro Plum

PLUMS / COLLECTION ORCHARD

Rediscovered in the municipality of Pietralunga (PG), though once widespread throughout Umbria. The flowering is quite late, making the tree suitable for areas with late frosts. The fruit is small, oval and elongated in shape. The flesh is semi-clingstone, yellowish in colour, very aromatic, sweet and flavourful. The skin is thin, violet in colour and covered with bloom. It is harvested from mid-July, but ripening is somewhat staggered. Suitable for fresh consumption or for drying. As early as the 1600s it was said that “with these, thirst is quenched, the stomach is refreshed, and the intestines are soothed.”
