Found in the municipality of Gualdo Tadino (PG), it is also widespread in several other areas of Umbria and is very similar to the Rosa apple from the Marche region. It flowers late and is therefore well suited to areas with late frosts. The fruit is medium-sized, round, regular, and flattened at the poles. The skin is yellow-green, with a pink blush on the sun-exposed side and few visible lenticels. The flesh is white, crisp, sweet and highly aromatic, slightly acidic even when fully ripe. It is harvested in October and keeps very well in the fruit store. The Rosa apple was described by Mattioli in the 1500s as one of the finest varieties for its “very pleasant aroma and flavour.”
