PEARS / COLLECTION ORCHARD
The mother plant was found in the municipality of Città di Castello (PG), but the variety was once widespread also between Tuscany and Marche. The tree is of medium vigor, with open crown. Very rustic, it is traditionally reproduced as a sucker. The leaves are mostly quadrilobed. It produces two blooms. The first (fioroni), not abundant, ripen at the beginning of July, and are very similar to the ones that ripen in mid-September. The fruits have a pear-shaped and sometimes globular shape, the ostiole is open, the skin is very fine and light green with slight red hues. The pulp is very sweet and delicate light pink, with very small achenes. The fioroni ripen at the beginning of July, the ones supplied in mid-September. The curious name ‘Touchy’is due to the fact that the peel is very fine and the fruit is very delicate to handle. So he doesn’t want to be too touched. It also blushes slightly on the side. This is why it is very suitable for fresh consumption also because it has an extraordinarily sweet taste.
