This variety was found in the municipality of Città di Castello (PG), in the high hills bordering the Marche. It is grown in single trees in the areas where it originated. It is a valuable variety due to the rusticity of the plant and the good organoleptic characteristics of the fruit, which are kept intact for a long time. It can be considered suitable for mountain and high hill cultivation. The plant is moderately vigorous and rustic, with an expanded habit; it produces constantly, it blooms in a medium-late period. The fruit is medium, of an elongated conical shape with pronounced ribs; the peduncle is medium, inserted in a medium, acute cavity. It has an open calycin cavity. The skin is smooth, light yellow when ripe. The lenticels are not very evident. The pulp is white, acidulous, very aromatic and crunchy, not too juicy, of good quality. This apple is traditionally harvested in the first ten days of October and in any case with the waning moon and keeps well until April, without losing its characteristics. It is very long-lasting.   Its name comes from the shape that refers to the donkey, an animal widely used as a packet and of which the farmer was used to seeing the backside.
