The mother plant was recovered in the area of Gubbio (Perugia), where it is held in great regard. It was later also found in the area of Pietralunga (PG). It comes from the little town of Cantiano (Pesaro e Urbino province) in the Marche region, near the border with Umbria. It may have originated spontaneously in the vicinity of Cantiano and later spread throughout the area where it is still very present. The tree is a very vigorous and hardy tree of spreading habit. It blooms late, more or less around the middle part of April. The fruit is a medium-large fruit, of rounded-heart shape, with a formed and misaligned apex. The skin color is yellow-orange with shading to more intense orange-red. The flesh is a light yellow, of medium firmness, and adherent to the pit. It has an excellent sweet and aromatic flavor. Maturation tends to come late, around the middle of June, but ripening happens in stages. It travels very well. Its synonym is ocola cherry both for its orange color and its goose (oca) bill shape.
