Bianca Cherry

CHERRIES / COLLECTION ORCHARD

It was recovered in the area of Gubbio (Perugia) in individual plants. It was also common on the Marche side of the Appennines. Its origin is unknown but some farmers remember having seen it also in other areas between Tuscany and Umbria. The tree is a vigorous tree, irregularly shaped and with spreading habit. It blooms late, after mid-April. The fruit is a medium sized fruit, rounded, slightly elongated and with flat apex. Its stem is long and inserted in a shallow cavity. Its skin color is white tending to yellow and so is its flesh, quite firm and attached to the pit. It has a good and sweet flavor. Harvesting time is late, at the end of June but ripening is somewhat progressive. It stores and travels well. These cherries are well suited for conservation in alcohol and are excellent when cooked in wine.
