Research into ancient local fruit tree varieties began 40 years ago in Central Italy. A race against time to save these plants from extinction.
Livio Dalla Ragione, Isabella's father, purchased the land where the Foundation's Collection Orchard now stands. A few years later, the association was established and the work of saving the varieties of fruit trees that were becoming extinct began. In 2014, the Arboreal the Archaeologia Arborea Foundation was established to continue the work of protecting biodiversity and maintaining the Collection Orchard.
For many years, we have been responsibly committed to protecting agrobiodiversity and enhancing the cultural and agricultural heritage of diverse regions. This commitment, on the one hand, involves research and, on the other, the dissemination and sharing of our knowledge, in constant dialogue with the communities in which we live and operate.
Our organizational structure includes national companies and major scientific and cultural research institutions, including FAO, Bioversity, and the University of Perugia.
We are a non-profit organisation registered with the RUNTS (National Fund for Sustainable Development) and receive the 5x1000 tax contribution.
A race against time to save these plants from extinction. Just as archaeologists reconstruct a civilization from a fragment, Archeologia Arborea, translated as"Arboreal Archaeology" has rediscovered the worlds and cultures of entire communities from a small apple.

Together with elderly farmers, we reconnected the broken thread of memory between old and new generations. We visited ancient farms, monastery gardens, ancient cultivation sites, archives and ancient documents.
Over the years, we have worked with transparency and consistency to protect biodiversity. Nature inspires our values and permeates our goals.
We believe in our research and the knowledge it generates, in constant dialogue with the world.
From the beginning, our actions have been geared towards safeguarding agrobiodiversity based on scientific and historical foundations.
Through our projects, we generate change in society in order to spread the culture of further safeguarding biodiversity.
We rushed to safeguard Nature because we believe that only by respecting it can we survive as a species.
